The classification of the hotels in Greece is as follows:
Luxury class (5*): All the amenities you would expect to find in a first rate hotel anywhere in the world.
First class (4*): Private bath with hot and cold water, telephone and central heating. Restaurant and-bars are available.
Second class (3*): Private bath with hot and cold water, phone and central heating, but the decor-is simple compared to the 4 stars.
Third class (2*): Private baths with hot and-cold water, but no restaurant.
Fourth class (1*): Hot water is not compulsory, sharing shower / toilet. Here you can include the youth hostels, which may also be a cheap alternative if you don't mind sleeping in multi bedded rooms with basic fascilities.
