How to get from Athens to Heraklio, Crete.


Fly to Heraklio from the Athens International airport, or, travel by ferryboat from Piraeus.

OLYMPIC Airlines (www.olympicairlines.com) and AEGEAN Airlines (www.aegeanair.com) are the two Greek domestic air carriers operating between Athens and Heraklio, Crete, 6-8 flights, daily. The prices differ depending upon availability at the time of purchase and they range from 50.00 - 85.00 euro plus the surcharge for airport taxes.

MINOAN, ANEK and C-LINK Lines are the shipping companies travelling between Piraeus and Heraklio.
MINOAN and ANEK Lines run a daily overnight trip departing at 09.00 pm. and arriving 06.00 am. Accommodation can be arranged (prices per person, cover only the transportation.), either in:

  • Aircraft type passenger seats, (prices 30.00 - 35.00 euro)
  • 4 birth cabins (inside or outside - prices 55.00 - 65.00 euro) and,
  • 2 birth cabins (inside or outside - prices 60.00 - 75.00 euro)
  • 2 birth deluxe outside cabins ( price 85.00 euro)
  • Single use possible paying 50% of the extra bed.

C-LINK runs a daily 6 hour trip from Piraeus to Heraklio departing 03.30pm and arriving 09.55 pm. Accommodation is arranged on aircraft type seats. (Price +/- 50.00 euro)

The most reliable way to get from Athens center to Piraeus is on the subway (35 minutes ride) The ferries for Crete depart 500m. from the subway train terminal. Busses from Athens (50 minutes ride) and taxis can also do the job.
