Why Travel to Greece?

The visit to Greece must be on any serious traveller's "do before I die" list; and it doesn't require a huge amount of time or expenditure.

Visit Greece in the right season at the right place and it is a marvel of blue skies, white beaches, ancient monuments and history. The variety of sights is huge, from Athens or Crete's classic ruins to Meteora's pinnacle monasteries, to the lost city of Atlantis on Santorini island, and the pretty Greek islands.

The people are mostly agreeable, pleasant and willing to help you and many(especially the young ones) speak English.

Transport systems - whether metro, bus, plane or inter-island ferry - are excellent, though overground railways are still questionable. The biggest bargains in the country are ferry fares. Boats are new, well stabilised and fast e.g. getting from Santorini to Mykonos in about 2 hours for around €15.00.

Downside: Since the Euro appeared prices have risen considerably. Greece is no longer the cheap destination it used to be at the end of last century;

• Looking for a place to stay for less than 25.00 euro per person in a double bedroom or 35.00 for a single bedroom is a risky task, and
• Getting up from a meal and paying less than 10.00 euro per person is a satisfaction.
